Geometric Characterisation of Light Weight Composites Using Computer Tomographic Images
نویسندگان
چکیده
One way of generating light weight composites is to insert porous ceramic grains into the melt of the matrix. The foam like inner structure of the grains causes a considerable weight reduction. On the other hand, it is desired that the mechanical properties of the matrix carry over to the composite. The properties of the composite depend both on the structure of grains as well as on their distribution within the matrix. Therefore, computer tomographic images on two scales are used to analyse the microstructure of the grains as well as the composites. In this paper, we describe the segmentation of the grains and analysis of their distribution in the matrix as well as segmentation and geometric characterisation of the pore structure of the grains. Connections to mechanical properties are discussed.

متن کاملA New Method for Root Detection in Minirhizotron Images: Hypothesis Testing Based on Entropy-Based Geometric Level Set Decision
In this paper a new method is introduced for root detection in minirhizotron images for root investigation. In this method firstly a hypothesis testing framework is defined to separate roots from background and noise. Then the correct roots are extracted by using an entropy-based geometric level set decision function. Performance of the proposed method is evaluated on real captured images in tw...
